Eric Taylor, researcher at UBC (Vancouver, BC, Canada) has worked on black Kokanee that are found deep in a couple of lakes in BC (and one in Japan!). So not change in front of you type change, but a morph (DNA) with a different colour—maybe related or helpful?

there is an extensive section on this in "An Immense World" by Ed Yong. His book discusses with researchers about colors in fish (and birds) and how the colors we perceive are seen differently by predators.
