I just don’t think people understand how important DEI Funding and science together, are. Women were overlooked for decades for research for heart attacks. All sorts of diseases and cancers have specific genetic traits that need to be researched.

But one of the things I learned from trying to fight racism in science is that specific genetic traits can't see social constructs like race or ethnicity and aren't actually confined by them. Sickle cell is important to the Black community, but requires and will follow malaria anywhere.

So I don't want to argue that we need "DEI Funding" to study special diversity biology specific to people who have Diversity. We need to fight racism in order to remember study the biology we've been ignoring because we incorrectly thought it was only important to people we incorrectly neglected.

The same for sex: the biology doesn't know about the boxes, and pretending only men matter is not only ethically but also demonstrably, scientifically wrong. It hides biology incorrectly thought to only matter for people who are incorrectly ignored.

We need to speak with society leadership capable of authorizing a signature, but you probably know your society’s leadership and can facilitate an introduction.

This is not for individual scientists, this is for professional scientific societies representing large groups of scientists.
