I find this part of his tweet especially disturbing. "A future where populations are never at risk", so you don't have to worry about *any* species, as long as you back up its DNA for future resurrection. No red list needed at all, everything under control, folks.

I am *entirely* in favour of cloning extinct species, but only as a last resort! Conservation isn’t easy, but it’s a lot less difficult than rebuilding a population from nothing!

As a biologist, those are strictly "near" dire wolves. Secondly, the species isn't saved, it's at a bottleneck of less than necessary #'s of individuals for a breeding population. Thirdly, one would have to find a relatively pristine site for re-introduction. Etc... Neat... but just a show.

If 97% of the species that are added to the endangered list remain, that mean that because of the regulation, they are still hanging in there and have not gone extinct?
That means it is actually working.

Regulation and Innovation don't have to be mutually exclusive.
