After his release in 1986, Klimov could not return to his old job, eventually finding work as a concert promoter for traveling pop music acts. But his main activity after release was the organization of donations and letter writing to queer men in prison.

With the expansion of press freedom in 1989, the group was able to take out ads in magazines letting prisoners and the friends and families of those imprisoned that they could write in to Klimov and his associations and sign up to receive care packages of clothes and food as well as letters.
