I got pretty far into it and found the main story beats compelling but something about the writing style felt off to me. Not sure how to describe it but when compared to GRRM’s style it’s obvious what is missing. I guess you could say it’s a little dry for my tastes. I should give it another go.

Oh my, yes.

If you haven’t read the Song of Ice and Fire series, it truly is excellent. Don’t let the show turn you off. I named my daughter for a character, so despite its flaws, I feel like that explains my feelings on it.

Anything by Brandon Sanderson. I started with the Mistborn Series.

Too bad he never finished it. I feel the same about this as I did about Game of Thrones. He sold out to tv and never bothered to finish the story for the readers who first made it a best seller. I never watch Game of Thrones and I won’t bother with this one either.

I enjoyed it, but I feel like he was painting himself into a corner a bit. Either the person telling the story in the book isn't trustworthy, or the book is kinda simplistic YA-ish storytelling. And if it is the former, the people who like it for the latter will be peeved, and vice versa.

I wanted to like it after meeting the author at a con, but the main character was stuffed with too much. Like a mashup of every other classic series main characters. No other characters were given any oxygen. Try a female author! They are underrated by sales numbers.

Don't, though. Don't breeze through it. Go slow, because the third book in the trilogy is at least 10 years late. If you go back and read Name again, really savor it, and then take another couple of years to read Wise Man's Fear, maybe by the time you're done we'll have an update on Doors of Stone.
