That language has an effect on the way we see the world. Stating and restating that it's "Ukraine's war" removes the agent - Russia, the aggressor - from the picture. At best it suggests that Ukraine is one of two parties with a beef rather than the victim; at worst it feeds Trump's "you shouldn't

have started it" bullshit. Even when we know the fundamental facts, normalizing language that denies them can normalize the denial of reality and *that* moves opinions. Accurate use of language is one of a journalist's core tools but it's increasingly a worn and battered one in need of some tlc.
