I don’t know how industry wide union negotiations work, but is there anything stopping someone with piles of cash (e.g. Apple) from saying to the guild, “we will pay writers 4x what the rest of these schmucks are offering, come work for us!”

a company could theoretically do that although it would be hard to justify to their shareholders I’m sure; in the 2007-2008 strike, companies slowly one at a time split off from the AMPTP to sign their own deals
