Keep hollow stems for 3 years for bees
Year 1 Keep stem length 8 inches min.,to last 3 winters.
Year 2 bees access mature stems in late summer/fall.They'll lay eggs & larvae will develop.
Year 3 Wait until they've emerged to remove the stems. Once they've left,cut them back & get rid of them.
