It’s probably a mix of factors but nothing you could have really done.

How old are the kids? When and if the kids are still babies did you brush teeth after drinking milk? Do you eat alot of sugery food? (lots of normal food like bread also contains alot of suger also milk contains lots of sugar)

I really feel like this is hit or miss. My youngest= no issues with her teeth. My oldest had tons. Same dental care routines. I think genetics and some things kids do (sucking on candies without parents knowing or something) can make a differential too.

You’re doing great. Regular dental care and getting habits going make a huge difference later in life. I just hope it doesn’t scare your kiddo from going when it becomes their responsibility(I went through this and only started going regularly for my kids - to set an example).

Genetics can be a bitch wrt teeth. I tried and tried and I had “meth-head” teeth for years (no insurance). I did everything I could. It sucks.

I’m just glad I have an excellent dentist now.

Know I'm coming in late here but maybe helpful. I went through this same thing for years--strict dental care, good diet, brushing after snacks/meals, still ended up with like 14 root canals by my teens.
In my case? I had undiagnosed hypothyroid. It affected the enamel of my teeth!

When it comes to teeth, it seems to be one heck of a RNG thing. I don't know why. Some of my friends have immaculate dental care habits yet have numerous cavities. My siblings do the minimal and have no issues.

it honestly can be. not a parent, but i had perfectly straight teeth. and only had one cavity growing up. my sister needed braces, and my other sibling just had cavities galore. despite her religiously brushing her teeth

I mean, i did nothing to care for my teeth as a kid and they were straight and fine. I know others who brushed 3x a day and they always had cavities.

Sometimes I think it’s just the teeth.

I had awful genetic lottery on teeth and had a ton of cavities growing up - as I got older though, I stopped getting cavities. The most I've had to get done were adult wisdom teeth removal and filling replacements from the silver filaments to the newer ceramic composites.

Does kiddo eat a ton of sugar? Or maybe a ton of citrus? Something that might be tearing down the enamel at a faster rate? Are the cavities in-between teeth or on the top of the crown? If its the former they might need to work on flossing more

It may just be a case of you need to change what they eat/drink and get a different toothpaste or mouth wash. It's a bit odd the dentist would say you did a good job and not offer advice on how to prevent future cavities. But if it's baby teeth I wouldn't worry too much.

Not an expert but I know mouth microbiome plays a big role in cavity formation too. If the kids have antibiotic anything going in their mouth, could cause trouble. If they have more starch and less sugar, the bacteria will be less inclined to grow in mouth
