Still in ER waiting room. Found Bun and creatinine elevated from blood work, if still elevated next week, Mayo Clinic wants me to see nephrology. This in unrelated to my hand problem.

That must be scary. Are you still alone there? Speaking from experience, just focus on the facts as you know them right now. "What if's" do no one any good so repeat the facts like a mantra if you start to freak out (like I tend to do 😜)

I am truly sorry you are going through all of this. From what you are describing it sounds like your hand is infected. You said he gave you antibiotics, so it will take a couple of days for your hand to feel better. In the meantime, make sure your doctor scripts you excellent pain medication. ❤️‍🩹

You need something stronger. Those T3's will be gone in 2-4 days.
I've had hand surgery and I was prescribed Vicodin.
If your doctor is not willing to prescribe you something stronger then go over his head or to another doctor.
In the meantime, keep ice packs at the ready.

I'm at the ER, been waiting for hours. Surgeon never called me back today. I'm afraid to leave the ER because it would be against medical advice and I'm worried insurance won't pay.

I know. I've got a high pain tolerance too. I got mastocytosis, fibromyalgia, interstitial cystitis, arthritis. I can take pain like a champ usually. This is so abnormal for me.

Called insurance nurse line, recommends going to ER. No family nearby or friends who can drive me, I can't grip shifter in my car well enough to drive. Husband called, can't leave work without risking his job. Hand isn't quite as bad now since morning dose of steroids. Guess I will use Uber. 🧵

I take regular meds & sleep. This morning, hand is swollen again, tingling sensation in all fingers, pain in the wrist to the elbow, can't bend my fingers. I take meds, call doctor, leave message. Shower & wait for doctor to call. No response from them. Husband can't get away from work again. 🧵

Driving home, pain got even worse like a charlie horse in my hand & arm. I'm still sobbing in pain. We head to the ER, but dozens of people were sleeping on the floor waiting to be seen. Wait time was hours long, went home, husband got meds hours later. I take them, pain backs off. 🧵

Husband tried advocating for me, saying my last surgery wasn't like this. Surgeon But left the room, the nurse came back,cgave me an ice pack & said I was good to go. They both told me to just keep it elevated and keep icing it, which I've been doing the entire week. 🧵

He said he didn't understand why I was having so much pain because it looked acceptable. He said he would prescribe steroids, antibiotics, and a few more pain pills and told me to go home and take them and to come back in a few days if this pain continued or to go to the ER, I still sobbing. 🧵

She got my surgeon, looked & said it didn't look that bad. I explained that I was an excruciating pain from all of my fingers except my thumb oddly enough and my wrist and that the pain was and pressure was starting to go down past my wrist. Can't bend fingers without bad pain. 🧵

Pressure in my hand was getting worse,now going down past the wrist. Nurse came in to take stitches out, shocked to see me crying. Took out the stitches, said hand didn't look bad! I'm balling, thumb is shiny & red, all fingers are swollen, can't bend without pain. 🧵

Waited an hour only to be told that urgent care wouldn't see me and I had to come back at 1:00 p.m. for my post-op appointment. By now, I was crying it hurt so much & was spreading down my arm. Left the exam room balling, hubby was angry. Waited at home while pain worsened. Went back at 1pm. 🧵

I'm home from the ER. It would have seen another six or seven hours to be seen and I'd been there since 11:45am. Plus suddenly some of the swelling in my hand started doing down & my fingers could move a lot more. I will call my hand surgeon in the morning though and follow up.

I hope things are getting better! Maybe try to elevate your hand above heart level, I had to do that when my Hans ballooned up after a wasp sting! Take care!
