Like making a sequel to both inside out and Zootopia makes sense because their concepts are perfect to get follow ups because of its world building and its creativity

That was my main gripe with Inside Out 2--it looked beautiful and was still just as charming and funny as the original, but emotionally it felt like a retread of the first film. Just my two cents.

On the live-action end of things, there are "re-imaginings" of Lilo & Stitch and Moana in the works, as well as sequels to Tron: Legacy and Freaky Friday.

The only live-action films in production that are not in some way part of an established franchise are films being produced under 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures (which are not typically branded as Disney projects).

This isn't to say that none of these projects will be any good--I'm sure they will all have their redeeming qualities; some might even turn out to be creative advancements for the company.

But it's really disappointing that this is what the company has come to. Walt Disney was a capitalist, yes--but he was also an innovator and a storyteller. It's hard to imagine him loving Bob Iger's legacy of "brand deposits" and stuffing IP into everything he can get his hands on.

He had such a staunch “no sequels” policy too, saying “you can’t top pigs with pigs” after his 3 Little Pigs follow-ups all kinda fell flat. It’s not surprising, but it is sad to see the company falling from grace specifically by going against their founders’ business advice.
