A European Union plan to rein in the most advanced artificial intelligence models is in peril after Google and Meta executives criticized the draft rules.

If google and meta don’t like it, it should probably be changed from voluntary to compulsory. Saying that, it is necessary for the eu to somehow develop its own in house ai systems to compete with google and meta but come with the necessary protections for citizens
Start with banning bots on social media and forcing them to do thorough liveness checks if they seem suspicious or enough people report them. Meta and Nazi Twitter would lose most of their power without bot networks.
If all the fear-mongering about TikTok means anything we should not be making exceptions for American tech companies whose handling of private data is easily as bad if not worse, with a well-documented history of privacy violations and other even more troubling scandals.
101% agree. Saying this for 15 years. About time we had our own EU alternatives for YT, WhatsApp or Visa, Mastercard under GDPR. It's stupid to be tied to USD, oil, gas especially now when Trump's Reich went full Nazi overnight. Thiel, Musk, Sachs and Curtis Yarvin finally achieved what they wanted.
Cannot agree more. There are still good alternatives. I got started finally using them. And hey it’s cool 😎. It reminds me to the time when there have been many vendors. So back to the future 😊👍
There was a time when I had huge respect about US techs. They were a synonym for innovation and driving things. These days they are standing for disrespect driving us agenda use their allies instead of partnering. I am tired. And tbh i am going mistral and hope to see more in Europe
I wonder why they’d be criticising EU’s plan or EU In general… definitely doesn’t have anything to do with the rules, regulations and laws that EU has regarding tax, privacy and big tech responsibilities … hmm 🤔
I distrust voluntary rules as they lack enforceability & may not address systemic issues effectively. History shows industries self-regulate inadequately. Governments must play a crucial role in drafting/enforcing regulations, especially in high-impact areas like AI.
Oh, big tech doesn't like government regulation? Well, I'm shook! Honestly, if these guys cave just because android boy and search engine plus say so, might as well just hand over the whole shebang to them.

That's what they hide behind when they mean "regulation" I guess.
A terrible dilemma, but what choice do we have?
