On this day in history, March 7, 1965 was the 54 mile march from Selma, Alabama to the state capitol in Montgomery. They were marching on behalf of voting rights and in remembrance of Jimmy Lee Jackson who was killed by a state trooper.

Thank you for reminding me. I was in school when this march happened and it was talked about as a historical and important event. I was lucky to be educated at a time when current events were deemed appropriate and shared with in the classroom. Today’s current events not so much.
