She’s also attributed to documenting the first instance of a computer bug: a moth found in the Harvard Mark II relays 1947. Though some refute the diary, and point out that first electronic “bug” was documented 1878 by Edison over his telephone system.

As for COBOL, it was based on Hopper’s FLOW-MATIC, and IBM has been keeping it up to date to modern structures (government and financial institutions still run it). Musk’s cherry picking about SSA shows the DOGE kids are idiots when it comes to databases and coding.
