Twinless has now joined Selena y Los Dinos in being pulled off of #Sundance virtual platform after pirated clips were posted online. This puts the whole idea of an at-home festival component at risk.

Not just cover, but attend! I don’t cover Sundance, but I’ve bought tickets to about a half dozen films just because it’s so easy to access its online portion.

This really pisses me off. I loved all the virtual fests and was bummed some of my faves like Nightstream and virtual Fantastic Fest didn't last past the shutdown. This doesn't help the awesome holdouts like @chattfilmfest.bsky.social and Panic Fest that have kept up virtual festivals.

Keeping up virtual is a big responsibility and has to be handled the right way. If Sundance was going to keep their platform up they should not have half-assed it. We create a culture around our festival where fans WANT to protect the work of our filmmakers.

We've had filmmakers who screened there virtually tell us that their films weren't even shown in high def at the time. Virtual is not an afterthought and should not be attempted by anyone unwilling to do all the extra work it takes to do it RIGHT.

Having been to a screening of PRESENCE the other day where someone was using their flash AND trying to film clips this isn't just a problem with virtual screenings this is something theater chains need to address too since people don't seem to know how to behave at the movies post pandemic.

CFF has been especially vocal about keeping virtual options. It's the one fest I would take staycation days for when I had the PTO to spare.
