Fauci had once suggested giving a half dose of a vaccine to somebody with a lot of side effects or who was concerned about the whole dose. It sounded wild but a half dose is probably better than no dose right?

Immunologist here. Living with 2 kids who have tick borne bacterial infections “hiding” in their bodies. From CT, think Lyme+ Thankfully I do what I do bc they’d be very sick if I didn’t manage their immune deficiency/suppression in concert with their infections. What’s your current microbial focus

The lab I’m in primary does lung infections and the immune response to Spn. My thesis work is investigating how upper respiratory viral infections create opportunities for secondary Spn infection in the middle ear(the rest of the lab does lungs). I’m primarily focused on neutrophil response to IFNs

Neutrophil work and lungs. 😊 hope your studies bring you a eureka joy moment or few. My grad focus was pathobiology - mechanisms of disease in concert with the immune system. T cells/cytokines. post grad work in a lung lab. Asthma. My brother, also an immunologist, did his work in viral infections.

So cool! 😁 I find it all fascinating. I have 24 and 96 hour time points so that’s why I’m so innate focused but we have others in the lab who look at repeat or chronic infections that investigate T cell responses (well they’re just starting out I’m halfway through my 4th year)

Ha! I remember being in the lab with those cell type time points coming off, and it feels like being a farmer (I grew up in a farm) where you’re in 24 - 7 bc you’re got to keep things alive healthy and working. How you’re experiment brings you bloody obvious statistically significant data.

The whole idea is silly, because vaccine development is about inducing high responses to vaccination. If one group of people had higher responses, you would cheer, you wouldn't give them less vaccine.

Plus it's a dumb idea from somebody who is too hung up on racial eugenics.

Some autistics experience developmental regression between 12-24 months (possibly due to mitochondrial dysfunction) when some of these vaccines are given. Whether or not they are due to the vaccine or not would be hard to say on an individual level. Live vaccines are riskier for those with PID.

I’m not sure what you mean. The reason vaccines are approved is because the benefits outweigh the risks. So if a vaccine has a lower risk of adverse events compared to the infection it prevents, it has achieved its goal essentially.

So please do not misunderstand. Science is complicated though and hopefully one day various diseases processes that would meet autism diagnoses will be elucidated and we can begin to understand why they happen.

You are correct. I am not at all saying there is a connection. So far, the research has shown there isn’t, but “autism” isn’t a defined disease process. It’s a set of symptoms, ie a syndrome. From a science communication perspective, it is best to say there is no evidence vaccines cause autism.

Most lay people are not able to handle nuance in complex decision making. So experts tend to simplify recommendations - but there are always exceptions to the rule.

Parents are, unfortunately, very vulnerable to anti-vax conspiracies. They’re upset & confused by their child’s autism, looking for something to blame, or a way to “fix” it. They’re unfortunately misguided. Some even end up using harmful “cures” they find online, like making their kid drink bleach.

This is very true, sadly. Although there are adverse effects from vaccines. Problem is that it is such a hot button topic, and “autism” is so heterogeneous, that really good research that answers the important questions is hard to come by.
