Yes very much. My dad was around but the house was very much run by mum. I think dad knew that he was wanted rather than needed. Although she was confident she was never bossy or controlling. In fact the opposite in a lot of ways. We had huge amounts of freedom to explore

I remember reading it but it didn't do so much for me at the time, but Bataille's Story of the Eye had me aroused immediately. Then there was an old 19th century incestuous novel that really got me too.

Bataille's novel is something I haven't read yet. Thanks for telling me about it! You are right about de Sade. He's scandalous, but there are better authors. "Juliette" is the de Sade novel that aroused me the most, the "120 days" were disgusting and boring, and naive "Justine" got on my nerves.

The "120 days" is indeed not only disgusting, but also repetetive, almost unreadable. "Justine" is about a good girl getting exploited by everyone - she is annoying in her naivity.
And there is "Juliette", basically the same story as "Justine", but with the girl being an amoral badass instead.😈😁

My favourite novel by de Sade is "Juliette", who is Justine's sister, but instead of trying to keep up her morality like Justine, she turns into a murderous, amoral badass. She is the most interesting of de Sades protagonists.
