He was a force of nature on screen. I can't overemphasize the impact he had on me in "French Connection" when it was first released in theaters. His performance - and that movie - played a big role in sending me off to a 40 year career in Hollywood.
Thanks. It was a little bit of everything - good, bad, and ugly - but I worked with some wonderful people and had some great times. I wouldn't trade those years, or the memories, for anything.
OK not on point, but in 'Enemy of the State', where Hackman character is trying to stay below radar, why the hell is he driving a Camino, so recognizable from air and in general.
Great actor, great movie.
True story: The founder of Popeye's Chicken got idea for name while watching 'The French Connection' when Doyle kicks in bathroom stall door yelling 'Popeye's here!"
In tribute I'm booking my flight to Poughkeepsie right now, getting myself a room where I will sit at the edge of the bed, take my shoes and socks off and pick my feet.
