Went outside to see that my neighbor had torn out a lot of dandelions - which reminded me of this piece I made a couple years back. Dandelions make great salad fixings and are full of nutrients. My lizard eats the flowers.

Note that dandelions are native to EURASIA, so in Europe they are a welcome sight. In AMERICA however, they have been introduced by colonization and are in fact invasive. Make sure you know which plants in your garden are NATIVE to your country and which ones are not - and make sure to plant native!

I thought they were naturalized, not invasive. Guess it depends on the area? I only ever see them in lawns and humans made areas where I'm from.

They've spread in Canada and all 50 states, but only Alaska treats them as an invasive species. They were introduced in the US as a medical herb centuries ago, but due to its quick and MASSIVE spread across the globe I'd easily count it as invasive. They can literally grow EVERYWHERE.

The thing about non-native plants is that while a flower like dandelions may still serve as food for american/canadian insect species, ultimately it is alien to these countries and we should grow more aware again of what is actually native and of major importance to each ecosystem
