I always get the "uncanny valley" feeling with photorealistic AI slop (people, animals, buildings, interior design), even before I zoom them in to spot the defects. With stylized images, the style gives them away, because eeeeeverybody is doing the same, so they become repetitive.

Inexplicable over-lighting, or for GPT images it's the inexplicable yellowy hue – like it was trained on a cache of Instagram filtered comics from 2011. Sends a primal "nah" to my brain.

Exactly This! I think especially when one studies arts my neurons activate and go : "wait a minute." Like how some games give you motion sickness for Over the top graphics. Glad I'm not alone with this sensation. 🤝👍

I keep up with the quality of images fully generated by AI whilst also following a lot of artists. I can still very much tell the difference based on my gut feeling alone, being correct in about 9/10 cases. That aside, if it’s online you can always tell from a technical inspection at pixel level.

Agree pixel-level inspection means it remains possible online, but quite confident that isn't the case with physically printed posters. What you can get with publicly available general-purpose image gen is also a step behind specialised variants some companies have internally

Well, the energy consumption is 10-100x lower to that of a human artist editing a graphic on a laptop. But yeah, agree it's possible that social pressure has reduced its usage

Oh you are wrong about that. The original idea that human-made art takes more energy than the average Ai-generated image comes from back when the models were a lot less complex and energy-intensive than they are now (just over a year ago), from a paper by one Bill Tomlinson who made the (1/2)
