For 3000 years, the lands between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea have oscillated between two modes of government:
1) independent Jewish state;
2) subordinate part of somebody else's empire.
Jewish state; somebody else's empire. That's it. Back and forth.

I'll wait.
2) IMHO the real problem is the context. Stating that it’s Israel or empires becomes an excuse for eliding just-revealed Israeli war crimes.
In addition, I believe that referring to a “Jewish state” during any period within the last 3000 years in which there was jewish presence in the region (i.e., NOT someone else’s empire) is an exaggerated and dubious claim.
this event deserves a post of its own).
Christians have controlled Jerusalem for 410 years; Jews have controlled the city for 1197 years; and Muslims have controlled the city for 1283 years. Clearly, each has a compelling claim to the city.
The problem with the Jewish state concept is it requires ethnically cleansing the indigenous people so people from Brooklyn can move there into other peoples homes.
Vladimir Jabotinsky said "Zionism is a colonization adventure".
Theodore Herzl described it as "important experiments in colonization"
Their groups were called the Jewish Colonization Association and the Jewish Colonial Trust.
My great great great great great grandfather owned land in Germany in the 18th century. That doesn't mean I can just show up and declare it mine.
People would correctly call me a crazy person if I did that. This is no different.
No. It meant (incomplete!) conversion of the population there.
Why is it taking so long for theocratically governed nations masquerading as full-fledged democracies to "grow up?"
Two states is dead and one state is not foreseeable
Two states looks dead today but maybe not tomorrow. There also is a confederation model that is two states within the same borders akin to the EU.
I think the areas that Israel wants will be annexed and it will be a combination of expulsions and citizenship or residency for some
I don’t know what happens to most of Gaza and places like Ramallah that Israel likely doesn’t want
If the Israeli far right wants to cherry pick areas and leave some that won't work because Ramallah + Gaza isn't enough for a state. So Palestinians will say let's do 1 state.
Which should least you to question the idea that the concept of nationhood rests on having ever had a self-governing nation state. Many peoples who we recognize now, never have.
It sounds very much like you're trying to provide a sham justification for Likudnik land grabs.
