You can get an eye exam for under 100 bucks if you go to a retailer like America's Best or Lens Crafters. You can get a cheap pair for less than that if you get basic plastic lenses and non-designer frames.

quite expensive without insurance ime, but if you can find a way to get a cheap eye exam, get a copy of your results and there are some cheap retailers online that will use your results to make your lenses. They work just fine but they will probably be more fragile than an expensive pair.
