A thoughtful person contemplating the doings of sociology and lamenting its failure. It is too hard. We should set it aside for a century or two and do something useful in the meantime.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree sociology allows us to better understand and with that knowledge we can do some great things or as you put it "something useful" but if that's how you see it then that's fine

And I firmly believe that many societal issues (racism, queerphobia,ableism) because our society has in some been built around these issues and the best way to deal with these is to study societies foundation and remove these things because as long as we ignore this we'll have to worry about fascism

ive only been taking the class for roughly a month and i just started college so i dont have any big insights but i can say its definitely a really cool interesting thing to study if youre interested in large scale behaviors or impacts of certain events, especially if you like to deal with

abstract factors or translating abstract concepts into concrete, testable experiments. a lot of it is also utilizing theory and it is where lots of other sciences intersect (statistics, history, some psychology, philosophy, etc) so its a very versatile science. its hard for me to put into words

why i enjoy it. but it definitely does not feel dry to me or less enlightening than psychology. if anything, it is more enlightening due to how widely applicable sociology is to everything. it also does very well with law and criminology since that also may interest you
