The low cohesion of of Action Streams has always felt brittle to me, which is why I avoid it and instead reach for Morphs.

So far that’s worked reasonably well!

I run into this ALL the time where I'm going from an index view with a table of rows. I click to edit and I get a "Missing Content" because the edit page doesn't have a turbo frame with the same name? I usually just end up doing data-turbo="false" on a ton of links.

You may want to try target=_top on the turbo frame on the index view. See: https://turbo.hotwired.dev/reference/frames#frame-targeting-the-whole-page-by-default

Same. To add if a frame throws an exception, how do you provide a good user experience for "Missing Content". Users get a custom 500 page, but not "Missing Content". Currently, I use a dumb stimulus-js controller to redirect to a 500 page. Not better, but more informative at least 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'd nominate the ActionCable/streams stuff as being a bit confusing. The rails helpers make it all pretty easy once you know what's going on, but there's definitely a learning curve (and if you have a bad model of how it works it can be very hard to debug).

Hotwire reminds me JQuery where you should tell HOW to update UI with updated state. But with React you just build UI and HOW part is done for you.

We actually cover that in the course! I walk down the wrong path a couple of times to show something but then we realize actually, there's a cleaner solution for this so you can compare the solutions.

Maybe I'll also put together a cheat sheet for some of that.

I move so fast with Hotwire… until it’s time to decide between model broadcasts vs controller stream vs turbo partial vs relying on morphing. I would like to see more people talk about the pros and cons of each approach for various scenarios where the choice isn’t obvious.
