honesly i've noticed that generally there's a lack of common courtesty and boundaries online lately when interacting with artists (especially in fandom spaces) just being friendly sets off some real parasocialness in some people and i can't help but wonder where this intensity comes from..

Yeah I wonder if it's linked to how hyperbolic internet language has evolved? People don't just say "I like this design!" anymore, now it's "op I hope you know you're a god to me" or something. Which, fine if it's silly but some people really internalize that.

honestly i think so, i always wonder how people feel so comfortable saying things like that to complete strangers and not just make small normal talk. but then again i think, people somehow don't think social boundaries exist online.. this overfamiliarity.. defnitely got worse post lock-down too..

Truly it's some kind of mix of; increasingly hyperbolic internet language + pandemic loneliness + people who "weren't in fandom before because they thought it was uncool" got bored and joined fandom during the lockdown but didn't grow up with the boundaries set by older fandom generations
