Screens I don’t like if it’s for all controls but the handbrake being a button frees up more space. Unless you have a need to J turn into a parking space on the regular, I don’t see the issue personally.
I don’t agree with you on this one Jim. I normally approach my car with boxes and tool kit, so being up to open without fishing keys from my pocket is super useful. On the Corolla, you simply put your hand on the handle and it unlocks easily. Shame it’s only in front doors, and not on the rear
I respect your position. But I’m definitely in camp keyless. I quite like just walking up to my car, stepping in and starting up without fishing for keys. Though I will admit to missing the tactile feeling of a key for starting sometimes. But I have cars with both tech, so I’m good!
If we're going back, there will be no half measures. Also, when a car is more than about 10, you won't actually need an ignition key anymore (or you can at least remove it as you drive)
I'm in camp keyless as well. Had several cars with it. Currently got an i3 without and it's like going back to the dark ages. I thought keyless was a silly idea until I had a car with it.
Nope, I like keyless.
I walk up, I touch the door handle then get in, then I push the brake or clutch and the car starts.
No fumbling around trying to remember which pocket the key’s in. No losing it between unlocking to put stuff in the boot and sitting in the driver’s seat.
It just works.
Keyless done right is great. The system on my Polestar 2 is pretty close.
The car switches profiles depending on if it’s me or my partner unlocking it, doesn’t freak out if we both have our keys in the car, doesn’t get mad if you get out of the car to do something and has no start button to push.
I've never understood why it's so difficult to put a key in a door or ignition. Never mind the cars where you have to put the fob into a slot and then press a start button. THIS JUST ADDS A STEP!
I like the key on my Passat B6, the fob slots into the dash and it becomes a start button. Although there’s no actual ignition key, there’s key blade inside it than can he used to unlock the rear seats to fold them down and as backup key to unlock the door.
Not much love for this opinion Jim but I'm with you. The security issues alone make it a bad idea but having to physically touch a button or sensor on the handle to lock means it's like going back to using a physical key. Nothing wrong with blipping a remote as you walk away.
ah yes, keyless entry, the thing that has caused more problems in my 18 year career than the thing it was designed to replace, just like its equally stupid and failure prone sibling, pushbutton start
All the keyless does in my car is flatten the battery quicker, and scream at me when I get out of the car to help an elderly relative to fasten a seatbelt.
I adore my i3 and my NC Miata and my M2 Competition. Keyfob stays in pocket. Grab handle, car unlocks. Sit down, push button, car starts. Key never leaves pocket. Glorious.
Only one million% ?! 😆
Add scrolling indicators, light bars, illuminated grilles, light units that cost 00’s to replace if a bulb goes, touch screens, digital dials…….
The list goes on and on.
Most modern cars are so full of bullshit
Also safety systems that are just tagged on without actual real world testing
In a recent review, one magazine had to tape over the driver fatigue camera as it was going off all the time
FWIW, I like keyless entry. It recognizes what car is being used to unlock the car and adjusts the settings to that driver's profile. I'd be fine without, but I like it. On the other hand, my older GM car uses two different keys (door, ignition) and that's insane.
I hate having to deal with keys especially as modern ones are so bulky. We have a keypad for the house so I don’t have any keys at all now which is great. Much prefer having my phone be the key and it’s seamless (providing the phone battery is reliable!)
I can’t imagine going back to a conventional key by choice.
When I come back from a cold ride or run and I don’t have to go a few clothing layers deep with numb hands to get into the car, that alone is worth any prospective downsides for me.
Were as with us it's always beeping as you get in and out in cold weather cause you want the engine to stay on to warm the car or the wrong one of us has the key and you can't start it or it's screaming that it's not in the car
I 💯 enjoyed watching an idiot with empty hands keep waving their foot under their bumper at the grocery the other day while I walked up to my car next to theirs and opened the rear glass with my free hand...

I'm most at home with the Chevy's key fob.
The cars that are key only, I rarely lock.

You’re just adding inefficient extra steps.
Touchscreens

Ya don't get key based 'Adjustable Settings for each driver' in a Dacia 🤣
Why have all the doors locked ??
Are we locked in !!!!
Did you walk off with the key???
Why is it screaming????
Guess why
"Credit card key does not work"
