not really, the awful chemicals used on golf courses make for an unsafe living environment, plus this one in particular is next to a freeway anyway... though we should definitely rename it and make it at least half normal park space
park goers arent constantly there, someone who lives there is. thats why things like parks are okay when housing might not be. and again, the toxic chemicals used to treat the grass would need millions in remediation for years before construction could start
im not saying there shouldnt be change, just that we need to be realistic and focus on things that are feasible! otherwise what do we get other than exasperated eyerolls from real planners
oh i have plenty of vision! and no offence just because someone says something isnt feasible doesnt make them a naysayer. theres a reason that, with all the momentum we as a region have, we havent built on any golf courses. and its clearly not entirely NIMBYism, otherwise we'd be building nothing
Wow yeah I never thought about it, but a golf course would have such a huge opportunity to break free from historical street design that hems in most of our cities to shit design.
If anyone built this it would instantly be the best place in the whole country to live.
You can also open them as public parks;
- adapting the landscape
- introducing a variety of sports
- catering for new social uses like schools & playgrounds
- adding walking paths & cycleways to traverse an enclave that was previously fenced off from the community
- making it public space
