We pick queries from our submissions to give feedback on! Once the annual contest is over, we email those authors to let them know which query is theirs. Due to the number of submissions, not every query will receive feedback, but those who do will be notified :) #RevPit

Q1: Captivating premise and a lot of awesome visuals. That being said, pretty wordy. I would trim this down and cut some of the fluffy language so we can get to the meat of the stakes earlier.

P1: The first page jarred me. There's a lot happening, and we jump from one topic to the next without warning, which took me out of the story almost before it sucked me in. I don't get a good sense of the character or setting. We should instead start right before this event imo #RevPit #10Queries

Q2: Love the vibes of this query & the stakes are solid. I think we could use some updated comp titles. The later introduction of magic surprised me, and wonder if we can weave it into the query sooner to make it feel less sudden. Overall, though, solid query! #10Queries #RevPit

P2: The use of five senses in these first few pages is AMAZING! I think we get a little too intense with the details at times, which makes me want more from the MC & to get to the conflict. Also wonder about the practical aspect of this opening, which I can't expand on without revealing too much.

Q3: This query is nearly perfect, and I don't say that lightly. It has stakes, character motivations, worldbuilding, everything you could want. The only thing I'm a little iffy on is the magic and how it plays into the world, but I'm interested enough to dive into the pages to find out.

P3: The prologue immediately took out the steam I felt from the q letter. I understand why it's there, but I wish we'd started with the MC. Jumping to the first chapter, there are some technology elements that confused me. Feels divorced from the q letter :( #10Queries #RevPit
