Suddenly it's not a problem because "ha ha funny pokemon game." Something like this finding success normalizes it's use in the industry. So if you're against AI, now's your time to back that up.

People are throwing around the words NFTs and AI as buzzwords lately
The CEO of Pocketpair is a complete idiot, I'll concede that- I mean, he made us wait YEARS for palworld and for a craftopia update while he forced the team to work on Art.. AI WHATEVER.
But as far as I'm aware, no AI went into PW.
I mean, it already looked unappealing based on the studio's track record of not finishing their games (their previous BoTW clone is still in Early Access).
I think that the people who say these things are not actually mad about the things they say they are. I dont have proof, but it has the vibe of finding an excuse to shit on popular thing.
If the allegations of AI were true, I’d like to know if the public opinion holds a difference between “it was generated by AI” (i.e. they replaced artists) vs “a core mechanic uses AI” (i.e. it wasn’t going to have artists anyway).
The CEO of Square Enix said that they are going to use AI in all of their games. So if you're getting ready to boycott, don't forget to boycott FF7 Rebirth.
There’s also been concerns about En Eff Tees for the game too. So I’ve been personally avoiding this game like the plague. I’m upset about hearing about AI use, but from how similar the monsters looked I’m not surprised
My kneejerk reaction to the generic as fuck name "palworld" and motion blur up the wazoo unity graphics was for me to call it an nft game lmao. Apollo needs to stop with the gifts of prophecy I don't want them.
I know how it's supposed to work, but I was browsing new indies on steam last night and saw a game that clearly used image gen, but no where on the page did it say it was using it. I wonder if it's something you have to tell steam but steam doesn't have to tell us? Or it was a fluke.
There's a difference between video games programmed by snippets of code with AI, and a game that has AI art. So maybe there is a fine print which specifies that?
Either way, the whole thing seems very sketchy. Especially since a few of the palworld monsters look like reskins of pokemon. It’s just sketchy and I will not personally be supporting them
Coming in a bit aggro there, I just said I’ve heard that. From a few different sources. I haven’t followed Palworld that much since it looked like a carbon copy of Pokemon with guns
Can we just get done with this phase and get to useful AI stuff like actual self driving cars, robot butlers, and getting to where menial labor and capitalism is a thing of the past?
I've been following artificial intelligence research for years, and this current phase comes off as a tangential wander off the track. Like if AI research was a cross-country expedition, genAI took a left turn from the rest of the group and has been going its own direction since
honestly the game is no better from a moral standpoint than any of the android Pokemon clones that blatantly rip off the series with Definitely Not Pokemon™, it's not a fan project, it's not a love letter to the game, it's just some mass produced trash meant to vacuum up whatever money it can.
This is just the same as when Edgerunners came out, and loads of people forgot about the shit CDPR's staff were put through because "omg punk loli by Trigger". 😒
So how is it on steam? Steam doesn't allow NFTs and AI and is super strict about it. Even if the team likes AI and NFTs doesn't mean they will be able to use this. Plus we have years of them publicly developing the game and no one bats an eye. But now? Oh, it's all game now
Like it is unreal how similar this thing is to Lucario, specifically his pokemon unite skin. It's an anthropomorthic canine that uses psychic energy to attack people.
Yea well Nintendo already went after them with a court case... and failed to stop Palworld for the Pokémon references. Mainly as you have things like Digimon around.
I mean, regardless of whether or not the devs are genAI dorks, I'm still glad the game won the court case. Sets a precedent that Pokemon can't be the only monster collector much like how Smash Bros can't be the only platform fighter.
Palworld feels like Paladins in the sense of how people mocked it for being an overwatch ripoff, until eventually overwatch and its creators fell from grace and paladins seriously looked better in comparison.
Well this notes it has to be noted on the steam page that AI content was used in game development. Also the game's development process predates the existence of AI created content in games. As it's been in development for years. https://store.steampowered.com/news/group/4145017/view/3862463747997849618
In the span of a day or so I've swung from "looks cool, I might get it," to "the devs are infatuated with AI, that's a bad omen," to "I want to see everybody refund this game and have it get taken off the steam storepage."
seeing a few people with understandable concerns about the palworld devs and seeing ten thousand nintnedo defense force guys mad that someone would dare "rip off" the most valuable media franchise of all time from the corporations that routinely underdeliver rushed products with it
As much as knowing about stuff the Devs have done is important. We also need FACTS. I wanna see some one Data mine the fuck out of this game. Are the designs AI generated? Is it using AI generated assests. just deep dive into the code.
Yeah I’ve seen “this is AI” thrown around so often with things that later are proven not to be but the damage is done by then and this studio could go under due to these accusations
yea no I returned the game based on principle. But something should be considered. If it's proven he didnt use AI at all on palworld. Shouldn't the game be encouraged when his AI game flopped?
I'm willing to give the game a chance, as they put years into the game (first trailer came out 2021) and I've yet to see anything showing them using AI in/for Palworld.
There's cringe AI bros'ery from the Pocketpair, just like the top of Bluesky. But it isn't part of the products(afaik)
don't get me wrong, this is a horrible look either way, but we need evidence of the game actually using genAI slop in it
and if it does, and if the devs can't prove they owned the content used in the dataset, Valve can remove it from sale
The thing is that there talking about another game there. One where the challenge is to tell if it's AI art or not. It's not completely clear if they used AI assests for the game. Regardless going to avoid this one till it becomes more clear.
Also interesting because, while game mechanics can't be copyrighted, visual designs can; and, a number of "pal" designs are so close to Pokemon it's not hard to tell which ones they are. So, again, we question whether big corps will see more value in defending its IPs vs. exploiting this "new tech".
Personally I just think it was a stupid, creatively bankrupt concept from the word go. Yet another "we took something cute and made it SpOoKy!!1!" indie game. Really hope that trend dies off soon.
They turned the shitty Dorkly "what if a gun was a pokemon?" skit from like 2009 into a game. Woo.
I want definitive proof that Generative Art was used in Palworld before I pass judgement. Not gonna deny that the CEO is a Certified Piece of Shit:tm:, but given that there's been confirmation from Pocketpair that there won't be NFTs and there's no proof of AI usage...there's no need to witch hunt.
And it probably shouldn't be surprising that the design for that SD game is itself stolen. It's a copy of a board game - A Fake Artist Goes to New York.
There's no proof they used AI. But if you're that sensitive, don't forget to Boycott Square Enix as they announced they will use AI in all of their games.
Game sold 2million copies in like 16 hours and is literally the fucking splash banner at the top of Steam right now. Sorry but if you're deciding to boycott this you've already lost sadly.
They stated they didn't use AI for the monsters.
Some really are unique by all I saw. But yeah, 1/3 are too inspired eventually. But general styles don't solely belong to TPC etc.
TPC didn't file a lawsuit, so Palworlds existence seems ok. And they definetely would have if the saw their IP violated.

This justifies me not giving it the time of day.
THANKS :D
Me: not playin it because it fucking sucks and is ugly
Is it still reprochable? If so, why?
Genuine question.
They are requiring anything that is allowed to label whether it's pre-generated or generated during play.
Valve's stance unfortunately wasn't ideological; they just didn't want to get sued.

Doop with the moral consistency
Such a shame
At worst the devs used a Pokemon fusion generator.

HAVE WE LEARNED NOTHING FROM THE MATRIX!?
