I saw my wife's desk setup at work the other day. 6 monitors. You'd think she was doing surveillance or something, but no, it's because she's an RN working virtually doing discharges and admits for a local hospital.
Oh wow,
firstly, good luck to her, sounds a bit stressful.
Secondly, holy lord, 6?! God damn I couldn’t find what to do with all even with every app on its on screen.
Not nearly as stressful as actually being a nurse on the floor of the unit (which she's currently required to do once every 28 days). I much prefer this for her, I just wish it wasn't in 12 hour shifts. As for me, I'm sure I'd find a way to work with 6 😁
I’m happy for her that the job isn’t THAT stressful.
Are the monitors for rooms to supervise or something?
12 hour shifts have always seem INSANE to me, can’t imagine how hard it is.
One is for the room, then she has her charting software, a group chat window, equipment monitoring, status logs, etc. I don't like 12s, but she at least goes in and comes home largely on time. A previous job it was common for her to be home after 10pm (shift end at 7:30) and sometimes after midnight
Sounds like you're building the ultimate command center! Just make sure the Taco Bell doesn’t end up as a new monitor stand... unless it's a 'spicy' upgrade for your desk decor 🌮💻.
Desks are extremely important! My wife wants one for her area in the basement by my office and she keeps showing me these simple desks and I'm just like 'no! You deserve the fanciest! Desks are too important to go cheap!'
Had the same problem, tried to do a clamping monitor stand with one and it literally left a divot in the desk. Hard to find one that's good quality and can survive constantly moving apartments
Have to go with the no frills Ikea desk styles. GALANT used to be it, then it was BEKANT (we still have one of these), no idea what the current one is. But also need to make sure whatever clamp you have has large enough contact points to spread the pressure.
Try getting some sort of arms to mount your non-CRT monitors to. They end up taking virtually no space and you can improve the ergonomics of your setup.
Way too many things going on at the moment to clear my workbench /desk. As soon as I got my virtual switching lab up, the vacuum battery died. And winterizing the house and removing brush due to red flag warnings. But this will fit a CRT and two LCDs plus a third monitor on an arm on the left
Its tough with how much gear keeps adding up on deskspace, have you thought about getting a kitchen wood block top and some drawers to put it on top of?
I see you've figured it out, but I've heard good things about IKEA kitchen counters. Personally: I "garbage picked" a flat interior door and stuck it across two bookshelves. 6.5*3 feet of desk for about $30 (the bookshelves.)
I don't think there is much of a probably there. Considering two of the same monitor stacked vertically would measure out to be about 34"x29" and I have a 36"x24" whiteboard. 😁

Like, I have 2 and I don’t know what I’d do with another one, feels like too much.

But both the named ones above survived multiple apartment moves for me.
I got my standup desk, monitor air and wiring tray all from Amazon. 3 years ago and is working great for me.
Don't know if I can go back to 2
