FWIW each student had *multiple* questions for me. Like, each demanding an essay. I hate this crap. I get countless emails like this each month. This is absolutely not OK. Our jobs keep us so busy. Those of us well known get hundreds of requests a month. YIKES. Libraries and search engines.

It is not the fault of these kids. They are my kiddo's age so yes, I have a lot of sympathy. They only did it because they were told to. This is the fault of their teacher. I don't engage.

When I was a kid, the teachers only ever had us ask questions to professionals that agreed in advance (typically after coming to speak to our class in person)

Like... consent isn't so difficult to ask for before sending dozens of children to your inbox 🤦

So... The teacher's way of teaching about ancient Egypt was to direct the students to bother you, a genuine Egyptologist and archaeologist, an expert in the field, as opposed to walking them through a library and/or a simple Oxford Libguide search.
