Oh but not during the inflation crisis where home insurance just got more expensive without a disaster? You still don't pay those of us in poverty enough
What about ALP's continued approval of the fossil-fuel (FF) projects that make these disasters worse & worse, for an industry that pays next-to-no tax let alone the cost of the damage FF are causing. Public bear all the costs while FF industry makes a fortune - whose side are you on again? #auspol
Insurance is becoming more important to Australians- should the government run/control insurance with the rich/big corp paying more to support poorer Aussies doing it tough?
Great. Also, Aus gov needs to underwrite NGO against redundancy. This is not covered by funding grants. I have been on a fixed term contract for 6 years!!
I can't even get disaster relief despite major flooding. Apparently i'm ineligible unless someone died or went missing despite my suburb being a flood zone, me going without power, unable to buy any food because everyone panic bought everything. Stark contrast to 2022's flood.

I looove that the suburb next to me with literally the same post code, thats not in a floodzone counts for eligibility. But not mine which was an island with no internet, power or way of escape because the bridges were flooded. Instant rejection. Piss fucking weak Labor.

We were lucky considering. Our suburb has downed trees over roads, all drains stuffed with branches and I maybe wouldn't be as bothered if the suburb next to us with the same post code which was safe from floodwater weren't eligible while my poor neighbours have to spend thousands on repairs unaided
Good to hear, but it shouldn’t matter. What we pay into insurance certainly adds up and they shouldn’t be aloud to deny people suffering in a disaster. It should be illegal.
Call me crazy but they should have to accept proof of damages as per the literal point of the companies existence.
Climate damage needs to be paid for by climate penalties on coal and gas companies.
Why should devastated home owners pay for the damage when the fossil fuel companies don’t.
Climate change risk increasing because of oil, gas and mining. How about we tax hard and make them pay for the damage they cause and the premiums we have to pay because of their negligence.
