What that also means, and I know folks hate to hear it, is that your Harry Potter games are Cybertrucks. Books are Teslas. Yes, you bought them before you knew she was like that, but if you're still promoting the work in your community, you are making her money.

She will be crazy with that money.

The last time I tried re-reading the books, it really dawned on me that JK…

Is not that good of writer. Sure the books were fun for their time, but her discourse is not well written, much less the world building, or never exploring the moral implications.

Part of why it's sad as a former fan is genuinely, she wasn't always like this. She had some problematic stuff going on, yes, but even progressive people had weird internalized stuff in the 90s. I remember her being a coherent and functional adult before Twitter existed!

Thank you for saying this, cause I've actually been wondering whether or not she's always been this way and we just didn't know. But I do swear I remember her being a decent person, way back. Who knows. Maybe the platform for her voice exposed us to who she really was all along.

Rowling's Mary Sue insert - maybe unconsciously - was Dolores Umbridge. Umbridge always smiled while she was being cruel, bigoted and sadistic. She enjoyed violence against those she deemed inferior. She didn't march with the death eaters or praised Voldemort but you knew what her sympathies were.

It sucks that she turned out the way she did. I will not support her or anything associated with HP in the future.

But also, she doesn't get to take away the joy I had reading those books, or the fun I had discussing it with friends, the thrill of anticipating new books. Those memories are mine.

I think a lot of people don't want to give up HP because they think it means they can't look back fondly at their enjoyment in the past. But you can have those happy memories and spurning her now.

Like, the pastor who performed my wedding ceremony turned out to be a pedophile. It took a while to come to terms with the fact that I can still look back on that day & enjoy the memories, even of the ceremony, even though I am disgusted by the man. Awful people being involved doesn't take our joy.

You don't have to get rid of them. Having them doesn't give her anything anymore. My mom wrote a note to me inside at least one of mine. Just don't spend money on any HP stuff now. She sucks, but she also can't take the joy we experienced.

There's BILLIONS of copies, enough for the human race to read them without needing to print a single new edition for several gens, let alone in her life time. (And thats without those dem digital pesty pirates at it again, those hoodlums!). No EVER needs to give her a single cent, EVER again.
