That 18-20 y/o period where folks aren’t doing coffee yet but still need caffeine is brutal. Got cans of Mountain Dew and Monster snapping open in 8:30am Music Theory class

Retired music theory teacher here... can you tell me what books you're using? I've been out of the field for nearly 10 years, Taught for 35 years at FAU.
I’ll always be grateful for my first job at 16 at an independent coffee shop where we roasted our beans and had a tea vault. I learned the art so young and can say I’ve never tried monster in my life.
I started drinking coffee in college for this reason! Had 8ams every semester & 19 credits. Couldn’t handle soda; did energy drinks for a while in HS. I switched to tea but wasn’t strong enough. But at 33 can barely do coffee anymore so back to tea for starting work at 8.
I was raised thinking it stunted growth so I had to sneak it but I thought those times were over and kids hang out at Starbucks like it’s an old timey soda shoppe now.
That whole "stunting your growth" thing has to be BS. I've been drinking coffee since I was 6 years old and I'm 6'4" so either it doesn't stunt growth or I was supposed to be even taller than I already am.
I was already a confirmed coffeeholic in high school and so were most of my friends. I would never trust a legal adult who isn't "doing coffee yet". Mountain Dew???? EWWWW.
A really unhealthy habit to get into at any age. It's not the caffeine that's the issue, it's the enormous amount of sugar in those drinks that can set a bad precedent for life.
No amount of caffeine could keep me awake during music theory. Aside from it being 830am, my prof had a very monotonous voice. Those were my "two rockstars back to back" days.
I used to drag myself to 8AM Theory 101 and then hit the convenience store across the street from the music building for a mug of coffee & a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos.
