yup, you got it! when the Corvus was built, the Desperado was still quite new and capable. but there's around a 20-year time skip between the events of the Petal War and the main story, and over that time, the Corvus aged far better than the Desperado did.

as for tactics, the Corvus is optimized for very fast approaches... it has these two big lateral thrusters on its skirt that help it gain momentum and 'run' very quickly at an opposing Dragoon. this built momentum for a lance strike, but also made sure the Corvus was exposed to...
firing concaves of Galidan Dragoons for as little time as possible. a Corvus would almost always be outnumbered, so the idea was to get in and get out quickly.
