That fear of being emasculated sweats through the while picture, a parody of a film noir, withh its femme fatales, antihero, shady underground night club, treason and angry mob but also a deep moral questioning of waht an urban life is and can be where life never stops, even at night.

One thing struck me, when Paul tries to get in the nightclub, the bouncer quotes almost word for word the final scene of Kafka's trial, letting the haply few know and acknowledge where the sense of dread and paranoia taht perpetuates throughout the film is coming from.

While often lying overlooked and shrugged upon (and it's a shame), the film has add many offsprings and inspired many. Would Zlotowski had made Belle epine? LODGE KERRIGAN KEANE? what about the Safdies bros? And so on and so forth.

To end, I'd just add that you can feel the exhaustion and fatigue on Dunne's face. And I feel like only cinema can render taht emotional distress of wanting to sleep, through sound, picture and acting.

After hours is fascinating, it's sometimes crude and borderline misogynistic (the lady charcater from the dîner is quite something) and also incredibly bold and litteral. It's the purgatory of a mediocre man, a boring little yuppie who crushes numbers behind his desk and is probably afraid of women
