THANK GOD SHE SAID SOMETHING. The vibes post Beef especially have felt really gross. The growing disdain for work in the space that has substance and tries to inform viewers has been really depressing to see but especially seeing people comfortable enough to call it "slave/protest"music... LIKE!?!?
The beef really opened up my eyes so much about how people really feel about hip hop, and not about the culture itself. The slave/protest music conversation is actually my final straw lmao
From the annoying convos when it comes to Dot and Doechii to the one producer that said he hates hearing soul samples and Boom Bap, can't keep lettin this happen fr 😭

*puts kufi on* I get so passionate about these conversations because we’re continuing to watch hip hop be rewritten and gentrified in real time, and I need people to wake up and see what’s happening!
It, quite honestly, feels like it’s being dumbed down as well. People want artist to pop out songs like a Temu sale and don’t care about the artistry. On top of, the non-Black artists coming in not respecting the culture
I went back to Twitter the other day and saw a clip of some YT streamer talking down about Soul samples. He YT boi said keep that Unc shit off my Rap it’s corny……I let out the biggest sigh.
My god, how many times I have walked around my room rambling about this subject.
Some many things have blocked out/overshadowed hip hop today. From things like influencer culture to streaming services, the soul of hiphop has been FIGHTING to retain authenticity. Not enough words for this subject 😤
I think it’s a multi-headed beast that would take so much to dissect. Years ago, you could easily see what the problem is. Now it’s just so many issues poisoning the pot.
And also the conversation of it being SO popular and mainstream where everyone wants to be included in it. *insert artist here who have made the jump from hip hop to pop/country music*
