I was worried the small baby could not compete with the larger ones. This blizzard did not help that. But I can’t tell which is missing. It almost looks like it is one of the larger ones that is gone. You can’t see bottom of nest so maybe they are now standing on the poor little thing. - ThreadSky

I was wondering if the weather played a factor and the competitiveness of the one baby over food contributed as well. 😔 I am trying to keep on the bright side. We still have two babies and we all hope they fledge successfully 🙏🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Saw yesterday the chicks were left alone & I nearly had a heart attack. It wasn't long (about 4 min.) but still. The chicks are easy prey. Live feed this morning, chicks are alone from 8:01 & still at 8:28 when I'm typing this. So preparing myself to the possibility of them taken by a predator. :(

It's difficult to say. Could be. Saw an eagle expert say if the chick got wet that could have contributed to it's demise since the chicks can't regulate own body temp just yet. But saw the clip of the chick caught in Shadow's talon. Personally I think that's what did it. Those talons are fierce!

I tend to think the eaglet was already sick and on the out. But who really knows. I am trusting them. I was reading on Audubon, the first month for eaglets are critical with siblings. The competitiveness for food is real and the adults won't step in when they attack each other.

Adults cont. to feed any willing eaglets. So if the smaller one can keep getting fed and make it to a month, it has a chance. It's hard to watch them attack each other while remembering this is nature. This would happen regardless of whether or not we had access, but it's difficult just the same.

I think it was the larger one too. Haven't really seen either chicks peeking at each other aggressively so thinking the larger one is the one who died. Saw the eaglet caught in Shadow's talon, was probably injured by it, and succumbed to it's injuries.
