Baby sunflower! I have lots of garden experiments this summer, but sunflowers were an experiment from last year that failed miserably. This year I have learned and will nurture these babies!!! You will grow! You will grow enormous!!!

Well keep in mind I only have like five of these seedlings. I tested out three different types of sunflower seeds, the Russian ones seem to be the most successful at the moment, but all three have seedlings. So far success is dictated by a sunny spot and daily watering for sprouting.
oh boy daily watering definitely isn't happening with mine, but I gathered the seeds from the roadside trash sunflowers, so hopefully they're hardy. TBD, it feels like spring here but the plants aren't fooled by it yet.
I'm sure they'll be fine with trash soil and no watering. They have a much longer grow window in your area. I'm just trying to speed up the process, so they are big enough before May to last the summer. Last year they got about 4 in by the time it was 100° they all started melting.
