Data suggests that using AI objectively makes you dumber and worse at critical thought. This is empirically true but anecdotally you can see the results of AI exposure by talking to a tech bro. Their brains literally don't work anymore.

"Kills your critical thinking skills" - and for extra bonus bad news, critical thinking is exactly the skill that one must use to notice and override when generative AI *does* make mistakes.
The more you lean on it, the more you trust it, and the less likely you are to notice its errors.
How can you empirically measure someone "getting dumber"? If you're thinking of the Carnegie + Microsoft paper what it showed is that there is a positive correlation between confidence in AI results and lessened "critical thinking." No causation is established.
Or ig negative correlation between confidence in AI results and "critical thinking" (wrapping that in quotations because they use a specific taxonomy to define it, which you may agree or disagree with)
I think if you're claiming to care about critical thinking you should be willing to back up your claims, as that is in no small part the thing that is being measured by the studies you hint at

It's hard to argue against the notion that those tools were a net help to humanity, but they leave us dependent on them.
