Nay . i prefer China girl from Iggy ;-) and the rest of the album is so so, i'm a big fan of Bowie , +40 original albums, name it when let's dance came out , it wasn't the Bowie i knew but it was the time for this kind of music , ;-) cheers
I bought it the week it came out - I was a Bowie devotee as a kid - and tried to love it like his others but secretly I was hugely disappointed. Shake It, the closing song, was a good indication of the bland direction he intended following thereafter, naff pop that still makes me cringe...
Yes! It was probably Shake It for me too, it fades out and you're left thinking "is that it"? I transferred my allegiance to Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe, and although I still bought Bowie, it was more out of a sense of duty, until the 90s and onwards.
Nay, however the tour was immense. Equally immense was the set list Bowie decided upon for the Serious Moonlight tour. Interesting how he only chose to feature the singles from the album to use on the tour. Can't think why he chose to omit the others.
For me, it's lower-case "yay", not a full-throated upper-case "YAY!!!" Half the album has been so overplayed that it's hard to remember once being excited about it, yet the other half still manages to interest me. Even if "Shake It" is sheer mindless fluff, I still can't help but love it.
I initially wasn't crazy about it but it grew on me over time. Now I genuinely love it. If you compare it with most of the pop/dance music of that era it's quite sophisticated IMO.

Does that earn some kind of record?
