100% this on my part too. Learning it was a brain chemistry thing, and not the 'not trying hard enough to be happy' my parents kept telling me, was vital for me accepting the psychiatric medicine that's saved my life.

I struggled with clinical depression for 30 years before discovering it's mostly a chemical imbalance that can be corrected with medication. I still have depressive episodes, but I'm alive today because of psychiatric medicine. Science rules.
