It is bizarre how this has become one of the most gut-wrenching topics of the day, in my world. To leave Meta (and X) or to stay. There are compelling arguments on both sides. I’m in the camp of “take my time, don’t act rashly, listen to all the wisdom of others, and take lots of self-care breaks.”
In addition to the reasons related to evil (we’ve made one dude rich by giving away our personal info and our work), there’s the fact that the FB and IG apps have undergone such enshittification. Stories, Reels, Notes, AI videos and vids of people getting hurt. It’s a lot that I don’t want to see.
But I also value the community that we’ve all built over a period of years, if not decades. It’s not something I take for granted, nor could I kiss it goodbye without a lot of consideration, and pain.
Totally understand the feelings on both sides. There are some large companies I've already cut the cord with (Amazon) and others I'm not yet able to for work-related reasons (Meta and Google). As long as they are enmeshed in our daily functions, we may as well use them as tools to monkeywrench with.
