“Your character looks just like this other character!”
That can be an inside thought. You don’t have to say that out loud to me

I think it was an attempt to get me to like the other character, but it did the opposite.
But yeah, the basic "Your character looks like *insert established character here*!!!" can be annoying, especially when your OC predates them.
My mascot is a Cat with a big smile - so it MUST be the Cheshire Cat. Wasn't even part of the inspiration. They have their smile from Felix the Cat 😅
"Wait what, how??" would be my response if the two characters do not share any resemblance to each other.
The fear is always there! 😨
I feel like those comparisons are cute, and I’ve even thought it could be fun to draw the characters together in a fanart sorta thing.
I’m sorry you have to deal with that, it sucks.
Sorry you think Naruto invented spiky hair, get well soon.
It's not a crime to look similar.
If it was, Ariana Grande would have ruined Paige Niemann.
it mostly is a repetition thing for me more than the thought of being compared to something. bothers me to hear the same thing over and over
Literally the reason I redesigned my character to look like this instead
I remembered when someone said my character, Luna looked like Princess Hilda from TLoZ and wouldn't stop. I had to explain to them what an elf is for them to understand. 🤦🏽♀️
but it makes me feel like all I'll amount to is a pale imitation of somebody else's work.
Most of the time I see comments like that it seems like they're coming from a good place, is that not true in your experience?
I’ve gotten so many comments that my sona looks like Uzi from Murder Drones despite my design being public several years prior to MD’s existence
Unless the artist specifically wants you to guess inspo, I just don't understand this.
I've had a character I've owned for 11 years be compared to Alucard from hellsing 3 diff times so far, and while it was flattering the first time, it got a tad too awkward when I had an art trade with a pal and someone else kept prodding him over it lol.
I think of it like this: “If your wife(s)/husband(s)/life partner(s) compared your bedroom “skills”—I’m being generous—with a past lover(s) who has nothing to do with your relationship, how would that make you feel?”
Comparisons aren’t compliments. You can just think about the comparisons and not say them to the artist. Say something nice or say nothing, its not hard
When I told the person that wasn't the inspiration behind the character, she INSISTED my character did look like the character she mentioned
Annoying as all hell
And people get MAD at YOU for correcting them! They really think they know our characters better than us. 😑
Just don’t. It’s not hard
1. No. I like them as they are. I shouldn’t have to change them
2. No design is original, there will always be SOME similarity to SOMETHING
3. Sometimes the comparisons are WILD and don’t actually bear that much visual similarity
Wild 😂
Can I not make a deer girl bc Deltarune is popular and did it first? I fucking hope not
This is just finding a general trait and going "NOELLE" I hate it!!
(still love both deltarune and deer friend, but rn they are just tools to prove my point here.)
I’ve gotten so many over even small similarities and it’s driving me crazy
Like, no, this isn't SCP related, this is *my* creature
I do like it when my intended influences are noted though.
But they had to think, what would saying our characters resemble another make us feel?
If it's any consolation to ya, none of your OCs really remind me of any other characters that I know from anywhere. So idrk where others are getting those sorta sources from
Like the character ain’t even Asian. It’s just the purple hair and hers doesn’t even match Gogos.
At least with my main OC (the pfp) I can accept someone calling her 'Orange Ranma' because she's a tomboy/redhead/has a braid!
No one has ever compared my designs with others.
it's just so easy to say "cool design! I love the colors!" or something instead
