I got a surprise when a stashed peanut actually sprouted in my garden a couple of years ago! I didn't recognize it so I pulled it up thinking it was a weed. It was dug in a little by some bulbs so my money's on my yard squirrel putting it there rather than a jay.
I'm Dutch and in 1984 I was in the Dome and watched the Blue Jays playing against Texas Rangers. We lost but I still love all blue jays. I mean all blue jays.
Not often seen in the coastal bend of south Texas but they are one of my favorite birds. Brilliant color, catches your attention quickly. One hung around my friends bird feeder and by luck a cardinal joined the feast. It was an amazing sight to see.
I went to work early one day and while sitting in the parking lot a huge crow flew by.He landed on a pickup truck parked in front of me.Then he went rummaging around in the bed and grabbed something and flew over to a field and buried it.He did it 4 times. He was a pro.
I used to go a local park , with either a bag of π₯ I bought ,or some peanut butter crackers to feed the squirrels. They would come up close, I'd toss the item to several inches in front of them, and somehow they couldn't find it .don't understand!!
Wow! That was a way more thorough hiding the peanut than my resident jays do most of the time...they usually just stick it under a leaf and call it a day. π
The Bluejays in my neighborhood eat the dry cat food we put out for the feral kitties π They wait for the cats finish eating and then they fly down and my inside cat loses it trying to chase them π
I read recently that squirrels are responsible for the majority of trees being planted.
Obvs in regions where they live (so not jungles), but it does make sense β they plant so randomly! π
