You don't have to ✈️ to every conference. You don't have to ✈️ to give a talk or lecture. You can give a talk, lecture, or grand rounds virtually. Connect the dots. There are an additional 2.5 trillion tons of CO2 in the atmosphere since 1800. Normalize 🚫 NO FLY ✈️.

The only method that has ever worked is regulation, making it cost prohibitive to do so. And that doesn’t stop those wealthy enough but it does curb it.
It's more environmentally friendly to drive the same distance you would fly, especially if you have multiple passengers in the car! Planes don't have catalytic converters and emissions at altitude are worse.
Air traffic is an issue in general.
Passenger and cargo plane traffic is just increasing, that's demand from people like you and me, not the ultra rich. Tourism as we do it is unsustainable.
Sorry for the bad news.
This, coming from Dem friends, who believed they were environmentalists.
- In a summer with drought, this may happen elsewhere too.
- Our local forest hasn't burned for years (more than 30 years). There was drought in summer 2003 and a lot of trees in the forest and the city lost their leaves and a part died.
That, and the fact that in US railroads are still unreliable for long-distances travel.
