The original paper said "unlikely but not unexpected" which made me wonder who did expect it.
We need a word for something that could always have happened but could only always have happened after it actually did.

You didn't know that greenhouse gases cannot warm the oceans because long-wave radiation only penetrates a few microns into the ocean surface? And that the oceans are being warmed by undiscovered underwater volcano! Do you live in a cave?
