Too bad there is no former fascist country that was defeated in a global war and turned into a democracy with a constitution that was solely made to prevent from happening again and was heavily influenced by the US so that you could learn from and improve further.
That's anarchy. Contrary to the common understanding of anarchy, it's not all against all do whatever you want. It's about building systems for true equality and against power held by some over others. It's literally the antithesis of fascism.
Anarchists like Kropotkin (Conquest of Bread, essentially a guidebook to understanding anarchists relative politics and a semi-guide to stateless society) argue that the state is where corruption takes hold. Bureaucracy inevitably leads to corruption type of thing. So the solution is worker-led…
…regional groups that use local natural materials and know-how to build industry, trade unions and organize to better societies through cooperation and not competition. Everyone owns a piece of their workplace (like a co-op). Criticisms have been that this is “lawlessness” and “anarchy” but…
…that’s been bastardized big time over the last 130 years to the point anarchists are seen as pyros and chaotic actors. It also helps austerity that BOTH fascists and socialists hate anarchists because anarchists are anti-state. So these ideas have been repressed from all sides, politically…
…but anarchists argue Lenin abandoned the real revolution and that’s why Russia was a failed “communist” experiment. They abandoned the idea of local worker groups (soviets) running the country and instead the middle class replaced the elite and became the new authoritarians like in France too…
Anarchism simply doesn't have what it takes to defeat fascism. Preemptively denying ourselves power to fight against state power is a disastrous idea - look at what happened in Spain in the 30s.
This fixation on decentralization is going to kill us, and it's going to kill disabled ppl first.
Would love to hear an alternative but I disagree that power is denied in anarchism. Power shifts from the state and corporations to local workers instead.
Decentralization alone is not enough. We needed a USSR to defeat Hitler.
There were many mistakes in the USSR and PRC, most notably the restoration of capital, which you've rightfully criticised. I don't wanna debate here but we probably agree about more than we disagree on.
I have a lot of wonderful anarchist comrades but I just don't think it's enough. They never seem to have an answer to "how are you going to keep disabled people alive" other than "mutual aid" which is already nowhere near enough
I feel like germany tried to do this but I backfired horribly with the zionism and such. At least they have laws preventing actual nazis from leading the country though
Haha okay. Well still. There are laws that like construct (?) things and laws that rule things. Ruling laws can be ignored but if you construct the thing the law says to construct it's there. But at any rate I didn't mean we should legislate a better democracy. I was really thinking of the design.
Oh and also- we could add in that the things that benefit all the people-
Like healthcare, utilities, free and unbiased press, access to information would remain public property, so that no one could extort the people.
Ooohhh ohhhh ohhhh, we could keep money out of it, so the representatives with the term limits could also not be swayed by financial compensation during or after their service to make decisions that favored a particular interest.
There is, it’s called don’t vote for a convicted felon rapist who refused to admit he lost an election once already and wants to do fascism. Or put his party of sycophants in control of all the other branches of government
We walked ourselves right into this, encouraged by a cynical media. Our institutions aren’t holding because we allowed their takeover by obvious bad actors
Until we get rid of capitalism this will always be the end result. Capitalism is fed with the work/bodies of the poor and middle class and only benefits the rich.
Our politicians serve money and the people who have it end.of.subject.
They feared tyranny but didn't know to fear unimaginably large sums of money. I wonder what a second amendment would look like if we wanted to protect ourselves from having our rights bought and sold.
One day maybe one of us help write a new constitution, and its a few things on my wish list: add term limits for all branches, reform the Supreme Court, get rid of the First Past the Post voting and Electoral College, and put recall options for President and House.
Or regulate the existing selection process, such that people who lie to themselves and have no capacity to serve the nation, don’t get past the first hurdle.
No alt text, and pretending the GOP is the only party that commits crimes against humanity is how we got here. Do better. Biden deported 3x more people than Trump did but yall didn't care.
The norms, customs, and light rules that order all Democratic governance but are no hindrance to Republican fascist tendencies since Reagan first blasted through many of them must go.
We need strong laws and an expanded, independent judiciary to force all governments to follow all laws.
Actually we shld b electing officials who will stand by their oath of office, not confirm cabinet members "just because" & employ the tools we have to safeguard against facism by voting against those who mean us harm and swiftly removing those who commit crime and blatantly violate their oaths.
Sadly that might weirdly be an argument for constitutional monarchy? Admit it. Even in Canada thebpmncant pull this shit. We have a govt gen whose all... do i need to get the rapists brother involved? And then we settle down.. as we do not want to get the rapists brother involved.
So if the prime minister tried to pull what trump is the governor General could veto it. In theory. Realistically. Hasn't happened in overb60 years and would be the end of the monarchy in Canada today, without a doubt but it is still a small protection for our charter if other levels fail to uphold.
You do know our legislature has the power to reign in Trump but they won’t because daddy will primary them? We have checks and balances that are being willfully ignored
I do know. Frankly, encourage your sane, non trumpy. Misses the days where Obama and McCain could stick up for each other as individuals, type and encourage them to primary. Grass roots. Real grass roots Republicans are the only thing that can save the grand ole party now.
A lot of people were unhappy then too. That’s how we got here. We need a systemic change so these rich fucks can’t hoard OUR wealth or create volatile situations for OUR futures
Obama and McCain were war criminals, what the fuck do you miss about them? (Clearly what you liked is the ability to just ignore the violence being inflicted by the ruling class)
That would be a democracy that makes sure your country's citizens receive an excellent education in civics, participatory democracy and world history. Europe does that well since they actually had to fight 2 world wars on their own soil against the fascists. Look at Germany. Nazism is still banned.

Counter link in which I start to explain my feelings.
