Absolutely not. They are *worse* than the US, because they are better at intimidation. Would much prefer EU, Japan or S. Korea.

Don't know if they do it in EU, but there is always low-level intimidation of lecturers to tone down teaching history or anything on SE Asia. Very hard to fight against when Unis so heavily rely on Chinese foreign students.

Sorry if my tone on this was flippant. It is actually awful.

This is not an issue in the EU.
Most Universities are government funded, and receive EU grants for research.

There are government funding and grants here too, but not enough to cover costs. So universities supplement with high fees from foreign students. It distorts a lot of things.
