I keep thinking about the cuts to social security access. Who picks up the slack when access to government services is made harder? Librarians. Tax forms, Covid vaccine appointments, and now social security help. The expectations were already unsustainable.

Think about libraries of things. In more and more libraries you can check out things like power tools, vacuum cleaners, cake pans. Commodities go in, the world we want comes out. More libraries please!

And libraries aren't just about books! Their buildings host after-school programs for kids, they rent out meeting rooms to local groups, they are a safe space for the unhoused, and they are a refuge for anyone without an airconditioner during a heat wave (esp welcome here in Seattle)

That is inaccurate. Libraries are under attack and are being defunded. How many will survive? There are huge majorities of people that don't have access to libraries because too many of them restrict who can use them. Many use a city system rather than a county system which excludes many.
